Is it worth it?

What your money pays for

If you've never priced this before, a few hundred dollars can feel like a lot for something that's been sitting in a box. Here's what's behind the number.

Someone at your table

A visit to sort and count everything with you, at no charge and with no obligation. You know the price before anything leaves the house.

Careful work by hand

Fragile prints and Polaroids are scanned by hand, tapes are checked before they're played, and the writing on the backs of photos is kept.

Organized, not dumped

Named folders in the same order you kept them, so you can find the wedding without scrolling through 2,000 files.

Never shipped away

Your originals stay in Ottawa, with a signed receipt and sealed, labelled bags the whole way.

Compared with doing it yourself

You'd need a good scanner, a working VCR and a way to connect it to a computer. Even at one minute per photo, 500 photos is more than eight hours of scanning, before you've named a single folder.

Compared with a store photo counter

Why not just take them to a big-box store?

If all you have is a box of loose, flat, standard-size prints, a store photo counter is a perfectly good option, and we'll happily tell you so. We're the better fit for everything else.

Ways to keep the cost down

You don't have to do everything at once, or everything at all. We're happy to help you find the right size of order.

  • Start with one box. See the results, then decide about the rest.
  • Leave out the duplicates and blurry ones. Most boxes have plenty. Only pay for the photos you want to keep.
  • Choose loose prints over albums when you can. If photos slide easily out of their sleeves, we'll suggest scanning them loose.
  • Pick the free download link instead of a USB drive.
  • Bring more at once. Past 500 photos, every photo drops to $0.29.
  • Split it with your family. Shared by three brothers and sisters, the $217.78 example order is about $72.59 each.

About photo albums

Albums take a lot more time than loose prints. Every page is photographed by hand, one at a time, so the photos can stay exactly where they are. That's why each album gets its own price, based on how many pages it has and how the photos are mounted. You'll have the price for every album before any work starts, and album orders take a little longer to come back.

Tip: if your photos slide easily out of their sleeves, scanning them as loose prints is usually quicker and costs less. We'll tell you at the visit which way makes more sense.

Our price ceiling guarantee

At the first visit, we count what you have together and write down an estimate. Your final bill will not go over that number.

If we find fewer photos or slides than we estimated, you pay for what we actually scanned, so the bill goes down. If there turn out to be more, that's our miscount, not yours.

What "no hidden fees" means here

  • No order fees, setup fees or "handling" charges.
  • No extra charge for keeping your photos in their folders and in order.
  • No extra charge for scanning writing on the back of a photo.
  • Video tapes are one price, whether they're 20 minutes or 6 hours.
  • Download links are free, and you can share them with as many family members as you like.
